featured by GoSee EVENT : The German Advertising Film Award celebrates its 10th anniversary in Hamburg to award the best commericals in 13 categories with an evening full of magical moments

At the 2023 Advertising Film Awards, which took place on 24 March for the tenth time hosted by the German Advertising Film Academy and was celebrated at Kampnagel in Hamburg with 700 guests, the grand jury awarded the film ‘The Spider and the Window’ by Zauberberg in the ultimate discipline: Best Advertising Film.



Considered with three further Hattos was the production for the client Samsung in the categories Best Directing (Dorian & Daniel), Best Animation (The Mill, award winners: Marta Carbonell Amela, Kariem Saleh and Andreas Rohde) and with the Prize of the Media. So in the end, the film production company took home four of the coveted awards – one more than Anorak, awarded for two Mercedes-Benz works in the categories Best Costume Design (award winner: Florie Vitse) and Best Composition (award winners: Georg von dem Bussche and Yade Miranda) as well as for the Penny film ‘Der Riss’, or the ‘crack’, in the category Best Art Department (award winner: Kave Quinn).

“I’m quite impressed at how advertising has managed to become part of the collective culture and social debate. At the heart of the tenth anniversary of our award once again were all the wonderful people with their extraordinary talent, their ideas, their devotion and empathy. A passionate dance show, the wonderful and committed grand jury paired with lots of love and cheerfulness contributed to a successful evening,” says Myriam Zschage from the German Advertising Film Academy. “That we were able to bid farewell to our longtime grand seigneur, Tony Petersen, with a standing ovation and tears in our eyes on this very special day was just perfect, both conceptually and emotionally.”

From the 35 nominees, the grand jury also awarded the thirteen Hattos in total : ‘Luck is Alive’ by STINK for Mami Wata (award winner: Xander Vander) took home the award in the category Best Editing, and ‘The Magic Garage Part 2’ for Mercedes-Benz (Tempomedia/Spellwork) was awarded for Best Visual Effects (award winner: Sermed Darah).



‘The XMinded – Break The Norm’ for BMW (EASYdoesit/Ambassadors) was victorious in the category Best Sound Design (award winners: Philipp Mönch, Martin Seyer). DOP Daniel Obradovic was awarded in the category Best Camera for Hugendubel (The World of Books, Goodhouse Films), as well as Guido Heffels, Marlon Fischer and Traktor for Best Script for the Hornbach film ‘Unleashed’ (production: STINK).



In the category Best Newcomer Promotion Film, the grand jury led by president Andrea Roman-Perse chose Natascha Stogu with ‘Guardians of Colors’ for Benetton – her thesis at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, supported by Bubbles Film. All winners can be seen on deutscher-werbefilmpreis.de



The Winner of the Giraffe 2023: Film production company SIMON & PAUL convinced the jury with the green concept and realization of the film ‘Google – Every Climate-friendly Decision Counts’ and was the happy recipient of the Giraffe trophy.

Ahead of the awards ceremony, the CREATIVE PANEL on the topic of KI took place. Speaker Werner Bogula, (Digital Enabler // Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg ARIC e.V.) on the symposium via linkedin: “On Friday, I had the great pleasure of speaking with five exceptional creatives about #CreativeAI in advertising on the Creative Panel at the German Advertising Film Award for the Artificial Intelligence Center Hamburg (ARIC). Enthusiasm for the new AI tools in the areas of photo, video and text was palpable and fascinating!

Mieke Haase (loved) was in charge of design for the event and, together with Alexander Muesgens (loved), encouraged to a playful use of AI in creative applications. Max Penk (David+Martin) presented thrilling cases from production practice as well as several clever mash-ups that whet our appetite. Mario Clement (CHAPTR) presented breathtaking possibilities in the area of video production with a fascinating collaborative project ‘White Mirror’. Tobias Wüstefeld (3D artist) granted an enlightening glimpse at his work with AI and demonstrated how the choice of tools impacts the creative output.”

featured by CASTING COMPANY INTERNATIONAL : German Advertising Film Award 2023 celebrated the best advertising films in 13 categories on 24 March, 2023, at Kampnagel Hamburg with a captivating award show and organized a creative panel on the topic of AI

The German Advertising Film Academy took place on Friday, 24 March, for the 10th time to present the renowned German Advertising Film Award. Themed upon ‘Bring on the colors. Be bold – color required!’, the academy required a dress code for all visitors. And this year, the organizers once again presented the TOP 10 of the German Advertising Film competition in the category ‘Best Newcomer Promotion Film’. It is aimed at giving newcomers greater visibility and a stage.

Finally able to come together once again this year in March following a two-year interruption caused by the pandemic, we want to honor the anniversary in 2023 with a special celebration – and Hamburg’s Senator for Culture, Dr. Carsten Brosda, announced that he would be there,” according to the organizers of the competition, Myriam Zschage, Tony Petersen and Ulla Vogel. “The industry deserves to celebrate itself and its magnificent productions as creatively and full of style and imagination as we would expect for the works to be judged for the German Advertising Film Award 2023.”

The creative panels took place on the same day, during which, the Green Award ‘The Giraffe’ was awarded for the second time.

The German Advertising Film Academy presents awards in the categories Best Directing, Best Script, Best Camera, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Animation, Best Art Department, Best Costume Design (new category since 2021), Best Composition, Best Sound Design, and Best Newcomer Promotion Film. From these categories – except Best Newcomer Promotion Film – the twelfth Hatto is awarded, for Best Advertising Film. A thirteenth Hatto, the Prize of the Media, is awarded by representatives of specialized media.
