.Henna, which is predominantly tied to Indian cultures and religions, has also been sported by a number of celebrities including Madonna, Demi Moore, Drew Barrymore, Gwen Stefani, and even Frodo himself, Elijah Wood. In order to be used commercially, the leaves of the Henna plant are ground into a fine powder. It is then mixed with water to create a paste that can be used in various beauty applications such as body art, hair dye, and nail polish. Let’s have a closer look at each of these applications that have trended extensively across the globe.

Mehndi Body Art is Beautiful
One of the most common beauty applications of henna is the creation of beautiful temporary body art. The henna is applied to the skin in paste form and when washed off, leaves behind a striking design reminiscent of a tattoo. These designs typically last between two and four weeks. Your design can be as basic or as intricate as you want it to be. While detailed floral designs are always popular, there is no rulebook that states what design you can and can’t have. Even if your own skills are nothing to write home about, you can create your own design. Find a picture you like whether it is butterflies in a garden or your favorite animal, and look for a suitable tutorial online that will show you how to draw it with ease.
Give Your Hair a Healthy Makeover
If you are looking for a chemical-free hair dye that actually nourishes your hair instead of damaging it, henna might be a good option for you. Henna traditionally comes in a variety of colors including brown, black, and the most popular shade – red.  This provides you with the freedom to choose from a number of outcomes. Using henna on your hair can also help treat a number of common hair and hair-related concerns including an itchy scalp, dandruff, and dry, brittle hair. Make a henna paste according to the instructions on the packaging and apply it to your hair. Unlike most commercial hair dyes, henna needs to be left on for several hours to ensure a notable result.
Henna is a Natural Nail Polish
Henna has been used for hundreds of years as a type of nail polish. Like with applying body art and dying hair, a paste is made with henna powder and water and applied to the nail surface. An increasing number of henna products, including nail polish, are making their way onto the consumer market. Whereas traditional henna nail polish stained the nails a reddish-brown color, nail products in a variety of colors such as blue, pink, green, and yellow can now be bought in stores and online. Apart from staining the nails, henna has also been found to be very effective in producing an antimicrobial environment that protects against Candida albicans.  When applying a henna nail polish it is important to remember that the stain can take a few weeks to fade completely.
Henna has been used in beauty routines for hundreds of years. With even world-renowned celebrities embracing the trend it is bound to be around for many years to come too.
