Neues Museum Berlin in light-bathed views - architectural photography by WOLFRAM SCHROLL
"My photography takes me to all areas of the industry: steel, mechanical engineering, chemistry, electrical engineering, aerospace, research and medical technology..." This summer, photography brought Wolfram SCHROLL to Neues Museum Berlin on Museum Island. In clear lines and with lots of light and shadows, he captured the venerable building with strong interior and exterior photos.
The New Museum was among the most important construction endeavors of its time in Prussia. Built between 1843 and 1855, the building is an outstanding document of 19th century museum construction, both as part of the Museum Island's ensemble and as a solitary structure. Due to heavy damage during the Second World War, it has been restored since 2003 under the direction of British star architect David Chipperfield. This made it possible to give the extraordinary building, accessible again to the public since 2009, its authentic shine.

Lube oil rather than hair spray, blue collar rather than haute couture, preferably the smell of steel to the waft of perfume. No models, no cool locations, just raw reality. I love my work - industrial photography. And I love the noise and the heat, the weirdness of the production lines, sometimes all a bit menacing. The people, salt of the earth, uncomplicated. And the permanent challenge of getting photos out of the dark production halls and complex machinery, photos that deserve the word picture.
