GoSee Book Tip : ‘A Spell Too Far’ – Lina Sun Park & David Brandon Geeting, published by Same Paper
New York-based photographer David Brandon Geeting and multidisciplinary artist Lina Sun Park joined forces during lockdown. The resulting, very loving work created during that time has been published in the book ‘A Spell Too Far’ at Same Paper.
Depicted are creative setups, staged compositions and scenarios made from food and household ornaments. It is a harmonious blend of the two worlds. The couple created a series of photos that are both odd and realistic – as if they had devoted their entire relationship to refining their processes and skills.
“As for the stories, we like to think of this as a book of fantasy,” David says in an interview with ItsNicethat. “The images are all open to interpretation and personal association.” And Lina Sun Park adds: “We used simple, ordinary materials that became something else entirely. A new world with its own story, past, present and future. But that story is up to you!”

David Brandon Geeting is a New York-based photographer who focuses on bringing out compelling details in his subjects with the use of harsh light. His subjects vary from the everyday to the extraordinary.
After studying at New York’s School of Visual Arts, Geeting claims that he began chronicling anything and everything around him. Common objects take on a new facade when re-photographed, re-assembled, or juxtaposed together in colorful, surprising and humorous combinations.
His self-proclaimed urge to ‘shine a spotlight on things that are otherwise insignificant’ has produced an exciting portfolio of still life photography. Building upon this same philosophy, Geeting’s work also spans the worlds of fashion and portraiture – while consistently maintaining the derisive sense of humor and playfulness that makes his work unique.
