Artist duo Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset have been working together since 1995, first as a couple and later as friends, exploring the relationship between art, architecture and design. Elmgreen & Dragset live and work in Berlin.
Director Peter RIGAUD c/o SHOTVIEW visited the two artists, who also like to explore homoeroticism and social constraints in their work.
Neither of the two, by the way, have a formal education in fine art – when they met, Elmgreen was busy writing and performing poetry while Dragset was studying theater, according to what we have read online. This enables the artist duo to view art more freely and, moreover, gives them a unique vantage point that is nothing short of revealing of the art scene. Something they indeed appreciate – after all, the two are meanwhile as well-established as they are highly acclaimed.
