As the center of global sports shifts from West to East, Saudi Arabia has emerged as the new epicenter of boxing, offering sports fans some of the biggest fights in the world. In a fashion special, GQ Middle East presents the rising challengers bringing high drama to the desert. CHARLIE GRAY c/o LGA MGMT photographed boxers Ramla Ali, Hamzah Sheeraz, and Ziyad Almaayouf for the feature.
The editorial spotlights the rapid rise of boxing in Saudi Arabia, which has transformed over the past seven years into a global hub for the sport. Through major sporting events, targeted mentorship, and bold social initiatives, the country is not only igniting national passion for boxing but also establishing itself on the international stage – with standout personalities whose influence extends well beyond the ring.
“Every time you step foot in that ring in Saudi Arabia, it feels historic because you are part of nights that have some of the greatest fights ever seen in boxing,” says British boxer Hamzah Sheeraz, reflecting on his success in the region.
The creative direction was led by Rashid Babiker, with Ankita Chandra as visual editor. Keanoush Zargham styled the shoot, featuring looks from Balenciaga, Hermès, Rick Owens, and Louis Vuitton.
