‘Mirroring’ – the creative reflection: CAROLINE MACKINTOSH c/o SHOTVIEW illuminates the diversity of South African fashion designers in LAMPOON MAGAZINE
Having enjoyed an upbringing in Cape Town, fashion photographer Caroline MACKINTOSH has dedicated her editorial for LAMPOON MAGAZINE to the unique talents of South African designers. Amid the characteristic Fynbos landscapes of South Africa, she presents both established and aspiring designers. Using the phenomenon of mirroring – or the subconscious mimicking of gestures and styles – she explores the creative connections within the designer community. In the process, she shows how the designers contribute their individual aesthetic voices while reflecting the collective influences of South African culture. Styling and creative direction came from Gavin Mikey Collins (models: Genilson & Nomvelo c/o Twenty Model Management).
“By mirroring designs and using mimicked gestures among our models, we seek to explore the parallels between these designers. Showing each of their unique aesthetic voices along with how they create not only from their individual creative perspectives, but also collectively reflect each other through influences unique to South Africa,” says Caroline.
