JSR AGENCY, London, is thrilled to now represent talented director and photographer Amy CURRELL : “Amy was recently awarded the role of Leica’s Emerging Ambassador, as chosen through the partnership with the Association of Photographers (AOP). The role was created by Leica to spotlight the work of talented and innovative photographers and provide them with a platform and tools to further elevate and support their practice and profession.”

Amy describes her work for us : “My style has developed a lot over the last five years, and now I’d say, it is quite considered and composed. I work with a muted color palette which can be seen throughout my work, and my lighting techniques closely match it.”

Photographer and Director Amy Currell was born in East London, where she lives and works to this day. Her still life photography and moving images are shot from a distinctively female perspective, and each frame is composed with thoughtful grace, artfully juxtaposing color and texture, shape and shadow.

Amy is most at home when capturing color and texture – drawing narratives from shadows, finding the warmth and refraction in liquids and blending CGI techniques with traditional still life photography for a perfected reality.

Amy always works with the newest motion control cameras. Her jobs are generally highly technical, enabling the studio to adapt in real time to a constantly evolving industry, and also produce a range of photos and deliverables in a single day, without ever compromising on aesthetic or detail.

Amy’s expertise is sought-after by clients who value beauty and the context of their products in carefully choreographed compositions. On her client list are names such as Ikea, Vogue, Selfridges, Liberty London, Tatler, Bvlgari, and even the London Art Fair.

Leica Camera is pleased to announce photographer Amy Currell as its new Emerging AmbassadorAmy was chosen through this year’s partnership with the Association of Photographers (AOP), a unique collaboration with Leica which aims to promote the work of talented and innovative photographers and provide them with a platform and tools for their profession. Here on GoSee.NEWS, we have an excerpt from her interview, which can be found on the LEICA website :

How did you start in photography and were you always focussed on working commercially?
I started taking photographs when I was fourteen, working with different subjects – mainly what was around me. I’d photograph my family, and I often went around London working in areas I found visually exciting. After graduating from university, I knew that I wanted to work commercially so I emailed several photographers and began working as an assistant. During this time, I wasn’t sure what kind of photography I wanted to shoot. That’s when I started working for a still life photographer, and I knew I’d found my niche.

How would you describe your photographic style?
My style has developed a lot over the last five years, and now I’d say it is quite considered and composed. I work with a muted color palette which can be seen throughout my work, and my lighting techniques closely match it.

Do you have a favorite type of photography?
Absolutely, still life photography is what I love shooting. I enjoy the freedom it gives you and the time it gives you to compose and consider your framing along with all the possibilities for set design. You can create anything – and I love seeing the images in my head come to life in front of the camera.

What are your three main tips for shooting in a studio?
Consistency, determination, and lighting. Set goals for yourself regularly so you have at least two or three days each month set aside to work on personal projects. Determination – keep going even if you don’t get the results you wanted the first time. So much of creating interesting still life work is trial and error. Finally – practice lighting and find out what works for you. I’m always looking for new techniques, but I always have my main set of lighting that stays consistent, which then gives you the freedom to experiment in other areas while achieving the results you want.
