The VOGUE Closet exhibition for Gallery Weekend in Berlin – presents iconic VOGUE covers, vintage & circular fashion, plus The VOGUE Collection with a pop-up shop

VOGUE Germany is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year – and to mark the occasion, is bringing fashion and art to life with its VOGUE Closet exhibition. With the format, which took place for the first time in Italy in 2023, we would like to illustrate how closely fashion and culture mutually depend on one another, which is just perfect for the Gallery Weekend in Berlin.” says Kerstin Weng, Head of Editorial Content at VOGUE Germany.

VOGUE : “During Gallery Weekend in Berlin, we don’t simply want to take a look back on the last few decades together with you in the VOGUE Closet exhibition, but instead shine a spotlight specifically on the fashion topics which have had a formative impact and are still of aesthetic and cultural relevance to this day. On 26 and 27 April, in the exhibition space of Notagallery in Berlin, visitors have the chance to experience five carefully curated, overarching fashion topics from the last 45 years firsthand. To design the content, we consciously collaborated with designers from Germany as well as various fashion institutions.

The ‘Body Consciousness’ area was designed in collaboration with PhotoVogue. For the ‘Vintage and Circular Fashion’ section, VOGUE Germany dipped into its own history to present works including iconic covers from yesteryear. What’s more, exciting personalities from the VOGUE network will present pieces from their own wardrobes while sharing the special stories behind them. Themed upon ‘Love Letters to Fashion’, visitors are invited to help design the gallery space hands-on during the two-day exhibition. THE VOGUE COLLECTION will also be there with their own pop-up shop.”

VOGUE Closet will take place on 26 and 27 April from 11am – 6pm at Notagallery, Potsdamer Str. 124, in Berlin. Admission is free of charge.

‘PSYTOPIA’ – with photos by W.VV.VV, among the winners of UP23, as a reminder of the MUSEC UNPUBLISHED PHOTO OPEN CALL 2024 for young photographers ages 18 to 30

The UNPUBLISHED PHOTO 2024 contest – Young photographers born between 1994 and 2006 still have the chance to submit their portfolios through 15 April. The contest is promoted by the Fondazione culture e musei and MUSEC Lugano. It is organized in collaboration with the gallery 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS in Milan, the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti in Venice, and is in partnership with the Fondazione Ada Ceschin e Rosanna Pilone in Zurich.

Unpublished Photo is a contest that embraces and seeks to attract new, young & emerging contemporary photographers between the ages of 18 and 30. Its aim is to promote and enhance the photographic art form through an initiative that seeks to support creativity without limits. For this reason, the contest does not specify a thematic guideline and welcomes works made using any photographic technique. Now in its fifth edition, the UP24 contest continues to attract a growing number of young artists from all over the world each year.

The initiative was first launched by the Milanese gallery 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS and then taken forward by MUSEC in Lugano in 2020 with the aim of strengthening cross-border collaboration and supporting the promotion of young artists and their work.

The winning works will be on display in an exhibition, held from 31 October 2024 to 2 March 2025, at MUSEC in Lugano – to attract collectors and photography enthusiasts while giving the public a chance to discover new trends and expressive voices in the international contemporary scene. A series of collateral events dedicated to photography enthusiasts will be organized to complement the exhibition. At the end of the exhibition in Lugano, the exhibited works will become part of the MUSEC collections, thus enriching a photographic heritage that today counts over 40,000 works from the mid-19th century to the present day.

Eligible to participate are photographers born between 1994 and 2006. Participants must submit an unpublished photographic portfolio, consisting of 10 images, from 12 February through 15 April 2024 (12am local time). There are no fees, the topic can be chosen freely, but projects must be stylistically and thematically coherent. Together with their portfolios, participants are required to submit a description and a biography outlining their relationship with photography. An online entry form is available here : fcmusei.ch/contest.

The UP24 contest will award the first place winner a cash prize of 3500 Swiss francs, and second to fourth place will receive 500 Swiss francs each. As a further award, all photographs submitted to the contest by the four winners will be featured in a catalogue published by the FCM. The costs of these activities aimed at adding value amount to 50,000 Swiss francs and are covered completely by the FCM.
