Sports photographer Michael MUELLER produced a cross-country skiing catalogue in the winter wonderland Hokkaido.
“There are days upon days of severe snowfall in Hokkaido, the northern-most of the Japanese islands, located between the Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Japan and Okhotsk. The sparse birch and bamboo forests are deeply covered with snow, and the storm rarely lets up for only a few short moments. A dream for powder freaks and skiers – with empty streets turned into cross-country ski runs, where one can glide almost silently through the lush white splendor.
One week of relentless snowfall. The region is known for extreme snow storms and fluffy powder snow. On this trip for the catalogue shoot for the MALOJA ‘The Alpen Way’ collection, we got the opportunity to experience Japan in a snow-covered winter cloak.”
‘Soul In The Woods’ was the topic of the first MALOJA collection and became the central theme of the label. The desire to be outdoors in nature with a good conscience has accompanied the team to this day. Equally important are MALOJA values such as honesty, authenticity, respect and decency.
