The new ‘Wilding’ series by Samuel Hicks is an urban take loosely based on the idea of re-wilding in nature. The photographer was interested in the very trendy practice of re-introducing nature and wildlife back into areas of the country from where it had disappeared – and he wondered what it might be like to create your own personal ‘wild space’ in an urban environment. A place in the city in which nature reclaims the land for itself.
It resulted in the ‘Wilding’ series presented here, with retouching by STANLEY’S POST.
All photos of the series were shot in different locations across East London, including Brick Lane Station Park, Pedley Street in Shoreditch, and an old car factory in Honor Oak. Used for each shot were a combination of real and artificial flowers, all of which were supplied and reused by a flower and foliage rental specialist. The ‘Wilding’ series has received an award in the category ‘Official Selection’ at the IPA (International Photography Awards), held each October in New York.
Samuel Hicks has carved out a successful career as a photographer. He has been fortunate to travel the world on various campaigns and commissions – while also producing his own personal work.
He has received awards from the Association of Photography, and his work has been featured in the annual photography showcases of Creative Review or exhibited at the London Photographic Awards.
