Photographer STEFAN RUHMKE, who commutes between Berlin and Sweden, is known for the massive use of color in his beautifully composed photos. We are very delighted to welcome the photo artist on our brand new GoSee SHOP platform and would like to introduce him to you briefly. Stefan was born in 1979 in Malchin, at the time still in the GDR. The BMX fan grew up in Berlin. After graduating from secondary school, he started studying civil engineering and soon switched to the vocational school Lette Verein, where he successfully completed his photography education as a photo designer after three years. He met his wife already during his apprenticeship – and from day one, the couple have developed all their photo ideas hand in hand with love and dedication.

Where were the motifs offered in your GoSee shop photographed? The NY Times photo was taken on the island of Ischia, the other photos in Jämtland, Sweden.

Where did you get the idea for the spread? The ideas often come from beautiful objects, good, old music – not forgotten by me – such as Johnny Cash & June Carter or The Human Beinz, or from special people or 100-year-old houses, or or or!

The photo with the newspaper leads us to the question: Are you somehow connected to India? No, but between the air quality here in Sweden and that of Berlin, for example, there are worlds. When you read that Indian children can no longer breathe due to air pollution and often suffocate, it makes you ashamed to be an adult.

How many spreads like that do you do each year? Somewhere around 4.3 (laughs).

Where does your preference for rich colors come from? During my education at Lette Verein, I often went to school in the morning when it was still dark, developed black and white photos in the darkroom all day, and returned home in the dark in the evening. Long live color!! Seriously: I think my preference comes to a large extent from series such as Twin Peaks or the movie Blue Velvet by David Lynch.

What other kind of clients do you work for? My favorite client at the moment is Live Nation Germany (Live Nation Entertainment is the world's leading live entertainment and eCommerce company. Live Nation consists of four market leaders: Ticketmaster.com, Live Nation Concerts, Front Line Management Group, and Live Nation Network.)

What is your next project? Surviving the coming winter in Sweden, of course.

Do you live in Sweden permanently? Why? Sweden provides a perfect balance to the turbulent life in Berlin. After fate served me a brain hemorrhage when I was 30, which I almost didn't survive, my wife and I decided it was time for a dog and a house on a lake. The blue hour which lasts throughout the night here in the summer in Jämtland is beautiful; it's a soothing inspiration.
