Stress
Blog by Quentin Décaillet / Back to Blogs

I've had this idea for a while – using polarized light with plastic materials to create those crazy colors, almost like a solar curve effect done in post, only it’s not Photoshopped; it’s real, using light and physics. This idea has probably been sitting in the back of my mind for over 5 years, but it wasn’t until a recent meal-prep session, packing food into sous-vide bags, that it really clicked. I found myself thinking, ‘If only I could pack away my stress that easily…’

This series became a kind of mini-therapy. I decided to seal up objects that represent sources of stress in my life – money, work, time, injuries, social relationships… Watching the plastic endure the tension, seeing the colors morph under polarized light, was strangely satisfying. It was like seeing my own stress transformed into something beautiful.

I guess a bit of pressure, a bit of stress, can make things interesting. Just like in life, when you manage to channel it, it can become useful, even powerful. It’s all about staying in control and using it creatively. So yeah, that’s my takeaway – stress can look pretty stunning if you use it the right way and learn not to let it take over.
