OPEN CALL UNPUBLISHED PHOTO 2023 Young photographers born between 1993 and 2005 have the chance until 16 April to submit their portfolios. The contest is promoted by the Fondazione culture e musei (FCM) and MUSEC Lugano, in collaboration with the 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS gallery in Milan and the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti in Venice. Unpublished Photo is a competition that aims to target and attract new, young, and emerging contemporary photographers, aged between 18 and 30. The aim is to promote and enhance new trends in photography without imposing any specific themes or limitations and to support creativity in all the senses, whilst embracing a wide range of photographic technical possibilities. The UP23 competition will award the first prize winner a monetary prize of 
CHF 2,000; the second prize runner-up will receive CHF 1,500, whilst the third 
and fourth finalists will each receive CHF 1,000. 
A selection of the works of the UP23 finalists will be published in a photo booklet edited by FCM. The De Pietri Artphilein Foundation, a partner in the initiative, will produce and publish with Artphilein Editions, a valuable limited edition artist book entirely dedicated to the project of one of the finalists. MUSEC will present the finalist's works to the public, exhibiting them from 15 December 2023 to 18 February 2024 in Lugano at its Villa Malpensata venue. All photographers born between 1993 and 2005 can participate. Applicants have to submit their portfolios, consisting of 10 images that must have stylistic and technical coherence on one chosen theme, a project description, and a short biography, until the 16th April 2023. The Global Open call has been running now for 5 years and the 4 winners have touched on themes such as the deterioration of the environment, the search for self identity, overcoming limitations and the importance of traditions and crafts this year. Thanks to the partnership with the De Pietri Artphilein Foundation, the UP22 competition award has given the first prizewinner in addition to exhibiting their works and featuring them in a dedicated catalogue to accompany the exhibition a monetary prize of CHF 2,000; the second prizewinner receives CHF 1,500, while the third and fourth runners-up receive CHF 1,000 each. The first prize went to Vietnamese photographer Quan Nguyen Ho (Life Garbage), the second to Indian photographer Dipak Ray (Frame within Frame).
