Clara Panainte is a Romanian illustrator and animator currently based in Milan, Italy.
As she grew up in Romania, between countryside and city she was surrounded by visual arts since childhood. Her grandparents, a painter and a ceramist encouraged her to become a professional illustrator and animator and in 2021 she graduated from the European Institute of Design (IED) in Milan.
Living in a fast-paced city inspired her to develop her own voice and create bold illustrations, often revolved around actual themes and feelings. She is particularly drawn by the urban culture, fashion industry and personal experiences and enjoys to draw unusual characters in abstract situations. Whenever she’s not drawing, you can find her out in nature or grabbing a cup of hot tea with her friends.
Since graduation, Clara worked with well-known professionals from the Italian editorial market and advertising agencies. In her young carreer she has worked with clients and magazines such as IGP Decaux, La Feltrinelli, The Muffa, Collective Arts Toronto and others.

Artist’s statement: In the field of contemporary art, there's an emphasis placed on viewing paintings as allegorical objects. To approach a painting with the question ‘What does it mean?’ can of course enrich the work, but too often this interpretative process becomes the main or only concern. I feel that this exclusively intellectual approach is a reductive exercise that overlooks the experiential quality that differentiates visual art from the other art forms. What interests me most is the sensory experience of viewing a painting and the affective properties that come with it; that non-linear, atemporal sensation that text, film or music can’t quite deliver. My paintings primarily deal with the human figure, as I find the expressive capabilities of the face and body to be unparalleled. I also believe that the figure provides the most relatable reference, becoming an access point for the viewer into the painted world. © // 7 files show complete blog
